Willem deBeer - Biography

Willem de Beer has been involved in picture making from his early childhood and was taught the basics of painting in oils by his father who himself was a popular amateur artist. His first oil painting was sold to a local lawyer in his home town when Willem was only nine years old. His school years were cluttered with art competitions in which he excelled.

After studying at the University of Pretoria he became a full time commercial artist and was involved in painting massive 'front of house` paintings for cinema hoardings for the 20th Century Fox film group. He also worked for a successful illustrating studio in Johennesburg ' Rent A Studio International` at which time some of his illustrations appeared in the Reader`s Digest magazine
